With the blessing of the amazing Professor CJ Hauser, Colgate's Pride ERG will host a book club. We will focus on three amazing queer authors coming to campus this semester. You don't have to read the books to come to book club, but we do ask that you come ready to discuss the writer's visit.
Come to one event or all three! We will attend each event, starting at 4:30 p.m., stay for the book signings, and then move to The Local Culture at 6 p.m. for a discussion about the book and the event. We will cover a cheese board or two.
9/17: Olivia Wolfgang-Smith, Mutual Interest - Novel - Gay historical fiction set at the turn of the century in New York with marriages of convenience and really witty, smart prose.10/15: Jaquira Diaz, This is the Only Kingdom - Novel - Set in the 80s onward in Puerto Rico, then Miami. Queer characters thinking about medical issues, such as the AIDS crisis in queer communities. Broad, intersectional, and intergenerational.11/19: Annie Liontas, Sex with a Brain Injury - Memoir/essay - Spans everything from the author’s history of brain injuries, their mother being closeted, their relationship with their wife after the brain injury to interrogating the carceral state's intersection with TBI.
