Using Glycobiology to Improve Cancer Immunotherapeutics with Charles J. Dimitroff, Ph.D.

Charles J. Dimitroff, Ph.D., is a professor at FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine (FIU Medicine) and a translational glycobiology researcher. His research focuses on how complex sugars, known as glycans, regulate immune and cancer cell functions, with the goal of developing new approaches to strengthen the immune system, combat disease and slow cancer progression. The Dimitroff Lab at FIU Medicine uses advanced technologies and model systems, including carbohydrate inhibitors, MALDI-TOF-TOF MS/MS, selectin and galectin chimeras, glycosyltransferase mutant models and human tissue samples, to study inflammation, cancer development and metastasis, tumor immune evasion, lymphoma development and other mechanisms of disease.
