KU Libraries and its Institute for Globally Engaged Librarianship (IGEL) will host a presentation by Merve Fejzula and Lendl Tellington, recipients of a KU Libraries International Collections Travel Grant, on Oct. 21 in Watson Library's 455 Conference Room from 2-4 p.m.

Fejzula, assistant professor of history at the University of Missouri is a historian of modern Africa and its diaspora who specializes in 20th-century West Africa's global connections. Tellington is a filmmaker and visual artist who tinkers with time like music — remixing the line between prescribed histories and collective memory.

This talk presents research from a documentary film in production about Younousse Seye, a pioneering contemporary artist and actress from Senegal. Entitled "The Age of All Women: The Becoming of Younousse Seye," the film will examine the conditions by which African artists are forgotten and remembered in the art world - and how artists like Seye confront them.

IGEL International Collections Travel Grants provides modest support for researchers visiting the University of Kansas to engage with KU Libraries’ rich international collections. Recipients are expected to conduct research and participate in a public engagement activity—such as a talk, workshop, or discussion—highlighting the role of libraries and library resources in their work.
