Please join Yale Chemistry for a Chem Annual Seminar in biophysical physical chemistry with Dr. Chad M. Rienstra, CEO at Resynant. Title: TBA The Rienstra group at University of Wisconsin-Madison has pioneered solid-state NMR methods and technologies that matured the discipline to solve high-resolution structures of small proteins. We have also contributed innovative approaches to enable larger structures of assemblies, fibrils and membrane proteins to be addressed and have extended these technologies to increasingly significant biomedical problems. These results are having a major impact on understanding Parkinson’s disease, fungicidal drug action and protein-lipid interactions in blood coagulation. For more information on the Rienstra Lab's research: Research – Chad Rienstra Lab – UW–Madison Bio: Chad M. Rienstra is the CEO of Resynant, and, most recently, a NMRFAM (National Magnetic Resonance Facility at Madison) Co-Investigator, Professor of Biochemistry at University of Wisconsin-Madison from 2020-2026. After his undergraduate experience at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn., he attended MIT for graduate school, followed by a postdoc at Columbia University. In 2000 he started at the University of Illinois, was tenured in 2008 and promoted to full professor in 2013, before joining UW–Madison in 2020. Chad began his career in NMR in 1999 in the lab of Robert Griffin at MIT. There, he learned the inner workings of SSNMR instrumentation and its design. He continued this passion while also getting involved in work on biological problems during his time at Columbia University with Ann McDermott. After this, he became a professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he continued his work in NMR hardware development while using SSNMR for biological research on amyloid fibrils and antifungal drugs. He then moved to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he was the co-director of the NMR user facility NMRFAM, which continues to push the cutting edge in NMR hardware technology and its biological applications. His leadership and experience gives Resynant the expertise needed to provide quality products and continue to push the boundaries of NMR technology and its applications. Hosted by Prof. Patrick Loria and Prof. Kurt Zilm.
