Crafting an Effective Statement of Purpose

The statement of purpose (SOP) is a critical component of a doctoral application. But as a document that needs to communicate your background, academic preparation, research interests, and match with a particular program all in one, it can be quite challenging to write! This workshop will take you step-by-step through the expected components of an SOP. We will examine examples of successful statements and discuss how to organize your content, avoid typical pitfalls, and draft a compelling narrative.
