When the “skirmish of wit” between rivals Beatrice and Benedick becomes too much for their friends to bear, a plan is hatched to bring them into “a mountain of affection, th’ one with th’ other.” Meanwhile, the passionate romance between Beatrice’s cousin Hero and Benedick’s best friend Claudio seems to be blooming too quickly for others’ tastes.
