The Future of the NATO Alliance - AMB Julianne Smith and GEN (Ret.) Christopher Cavoli

The Blue Center for Global Strategic Assessment will host a fireside chat featuring Senior Fellow Ambassador Julianne Smith, the former U.S. Permanent Representative to NATO, and General (Retired) Christopher Cavoli, MA ’97, the former Supreme Allied Commander Europe. Their discussion will address the internal and external challenges that NATO is facing and the future of the Alliance. NATO marks its 77th anniversary facing a set of challenges as profound as any in its history: a land war in Europe, questions about America’s commitment to the Alliance, a transatlantic defense industrial base desperately in need of reform, new threats in the cyber, space, and information domains, and a deepening relationship between Russia and China. The Blue Center supports the interdisciplinary study of statecraft and security by bringing together leading scholars and practitioners, and supporting research and teaching related to national defense, intelligence, and geoeconomics. The discussion is open to members of the Yale Community.
