Celebrating its 35th season the Myra Foundation Presents: Concerts in the Galleries will host Del Sol Quartet performing "Angel Island Oratorio" on Sunday, April 4, 2027. Working with local musicians, Del Sol will lead a performance of the "Angel Island Oratorio," a powerful musical work that brings to life the stories of Chinese immigrants detained at Angel Island Immigration Station between 1910 and 1940. Blending string quartet, choir, soloists and poetry carved into the detention center walls, the oratorio explores themes of hope, hardship, resilience and belonging. Through evocative music and historical texts, it honors the immigrant experience and celebrates the enduring human quest for dignity, opportunity and a place to call home. The Museum has excellent acoustics for this kind of intimate performance, and concerts are always followed by a free wine and cheese reception where audience members have a chance to meet the visiting musicians.

Del Sol Quartet is an innovative and adventurous string quartet renowned for its artistic excellence and innovative programming. The quartet combines technical mastery with a fearless commitment to new music, bringing fresh voices and perspectives to audiences around the world. Through dynamic performances, creative collaborations and a dedication to cultural exchange, Del Sol Quartet consistently expands the boundaries of the string quartet tradition. Their programs inspire curiosity, foster connection and celebrate the transformative power of music.

“Masters of all musical things they survey.” —Gramophone

“Del Sol gave it a knockout performance, one that brought Bartók’s rustic dance melodies, heartbreaking night music, and harmonic brilliance to the fore with admirable nuance and intensity.” —San Francisco Classical Voice

“A leading force in 21st century chamber music.” —Mercury Soul profile of the ensemble

The season of chamber music by nationally and internally known musicians is the only series of its kind in the Grand Forks area. Chamber music can include both vocal and instrumental music played by a small ensemble with only one player to a part. Although it is often associated with string quartets, nearly any instrument and music from any musical period including modern and contemporary, can be found on a chamber music concert program.

All concerts are held on Sunday afternoons at 2 p.m. in the Museum galleries. Tickets range from $10 to $35. Discounted season tickets are also available. Museum members receive discounted tickets and children 12 and under are free, as are students from 12 to 18 who play in their school orchestra or band. Seating is limited and guests are encouraged to buy their tickets in advance and come early for the best seats. Tickets available at ndmoa.com or by calling 701.777.4195.
