Secrets of the Haunted Labs

Looking for some Halloween fun for all ages? Make plans to join the Department of Physics and the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry in Faraday and LaTourette Halls Saturday, Oct. 24 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Secrets of the Haunted Labs will get you in the spirit with family-friendly hands-on activities – freaky physics, creepy chemistry, and lots of spooky science fun. There will be lights, lasers, and lightning bolts, all managed by NIU student volunteers. The festivities will wrap up with a chemistry demonstration show from the NIU Chemistry Club, starting at 2 p.m. This is the third year the departments have collaborated on Haunted Labs. The program is not only fun, but it also fosters children’s interest and curiosity in science when they visit the labs. “I think it’s important for people to see that Physics and Chemistry are all around us, and while they can seem spooky, they’re not scary,” said NIU Physics’ “haunted lab manager” Jeremy Benson. “The haunted labs are a great way for the public to experience some ‘hair-raising’ science fun, while also learning about how the world around us works.” Secrets of the Haunted Labs is free and open to the public.
