Unraveling Together is a support group for students who are looking to learn how to cope with life's stresses, build in "me-time" into their schedule, combat loneliness, try something new in the safe space of like-minded people, and recharge their energy. Crafting is often a relaxing and satisfying creative outlet, but it also provides wealth to mental health! We will unravel real or metaphorical knots in our lives together through crochet as a way to build coping skills and community. All skill levels welcome! The rhythmic, repetitive motions of crochet can help reduce stress, redirect attention away from negative thought loops, encourage self-exploration, and mindfulness.
To join, simply arrive a few minutes before the start time. If you’d like reminders and an easier check-in, you can also message us at [email protected] to be added to the roster.
These groups provide an opportunity for support from others who hold similar identities or life experiences. Participation is open and drop-in style, meaning members do not have to be current clients of the Student Counseling Center, and you may attend meetings as often or as seldom as you like. Support groups are open to all UTD students, and no group screening is required. Please note support groups are not the same as therapy groups in that they are more focused on building community and peer support guided by one of our therapists than in-depth therapeutic intervention.
