Viola survives a storm at sea and lands in Illyria where, disguising herself as a boy, she enters the employ of Duke Orsino, who pines for the unreceptive Olivia. Orsino dispatches the disguised Viola (calling herself “Cesario”) to woo Olivia on his behalf, and that’s when things get really interesting. Olivia falls in love with Viola/Cesario, who in turn has fallen in love with Orsino. How this love triangle gets resolved is both delightful and poignant. Enlivening the proceedings are Olivia’s perpetually besotted uncle Toby Belch, his clueless meal ticket Sir Andrew Aguecheek, the witty lady-in-waiting Maria, the gnomic fool Feste, and the stuck-up steward, Malvolio.
