Opera at Morgan proudly presents two exciting one-act operas in a compelling double-bill
production: Duke Ellington’s rarely performed jazz opera, Queenie Pie, by Duke Ellington and Highway 1, U.S.A.by William Grant Still, known as the “Dean of African American Composers.”
Filled with Ellington’s unmistakable jazz style, wit, theatrical flair, and vibrant dance, Queenie
Pie follows a celebrated Harlem beautician whose glamorous world is disrupted when a beautiful rival challenges her status and transforms her life in unexpected ways.
