Best Practices for Search Committees

The objective of this workshop is to prepare faculty to fulfil the Strategic Plan goal of hiring the most talented and diverse faculty in our university’s history by employing equitable and inclusive best practices in the search process. The workshop shares recommendations for the various steps in the process, with particular focus on screening, evaluating, and interviewing candidates, including appropriate conduct when hosting finalists on campus. The workshop offers practical guidance on how to run committee meetings and use rubrics to conduct an effective search. The workshop is informed by research findings from higher education, psychology, as well as insights from STEM faculty who have examined or experimented with recruitment processes.
