The Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability Dean's Lecture Series is a forum that brings together scholars and thought leaders to discuss the frontiers of research, education, practice, and impact related to an area or theme in sustainability. The series aims to deepen our understanding of the topic and inspire us to do more.
Join us for a Dean’s Lecture featuring Professor Partha Dasgupta.
‘Economics for Sustainable Societies’
Professor Partha Dasgupta has long been a leader in illuminating the importance of natural capital to economic prosperity and well-being, and in advancing new ways – beyond GDP – to illuminate nature in measures of economic performance, through a shift to inclusive wealth. He presents this case in his most recent book – On Natural Capital: The Value of the World Around Us – Transforming Economics to Value Nature and Combat Climate Change – published in January. In this lecture, Professor Dasgupta asks what economic policy looks like when ecology is built into it, and why the two disciplines belong together.
