Join the Georgia State University School of Music for an exciting evening of music spanning continents, cultures, and more than a century of musical innovation—all in celebration of Georgia State University’s International Week.
The program features Edgar Varèse’s classic Ionisation, one of the landmark works of 20th-century percussion music; the world premiere of Perihelion Polyphony by GSU School of Music composition faculty head Nickitas J. Demos; and the Atlanta premiere of Xochiquetzal for violin and percussion ensemble by Robert Rodriguez, featuring GSU violin professor Serena Scibelli. Inspired by the story of Xochiquetzal, a Mayan goddess, Rodriguez’s work brings together violin and percussion in a dramatic musical exploration of this powerful figure.
The program also features music by composers from Germany, Japan, Mexico, and the United States, reflecting the global perspectives and cultural connections at the heart of International Week.
Come experience the extraordinary musicians of the GSU School of Music—and support music scholarships for our students!
