Sweet Home Chicago: Claiming Black Spaces with Tonika Lewis Johnson

As the most recent expansion of Tonika Lewis Johnson’s Folded Map project, the “Don’t Go…” project, features interviews with 30 people who discuss how they first confronted—and eventually combated—the harmful advice they’d been given to avoid Chicago’s South and West Sides. The Center invites the multifaceted artist, Co-Founder of Englewood Arts Collective (EAC) and Resident Association of Greater Englewood (R.A.G.E.), and photographer Tonika Lewis Johnson, in conversation with Director of the Egan Office of Urban Education and Community Partnerships (UECP) and adjunct faculty in Community Service Studies, John Ziegler, to speak about her work as a response to displacement and gentrification in Black communities across Chicago.
