LOYOLA'S RULE OF LAW INSTITUTE PRESENTS: TREATIES & THE RULE OF LAW

PROGRAM OF THE SEVENTH CIRCUIT BAR ASSOCIATION FOUNDATION

The Constitution empowers the President to enter into treaties with other nations, subject to the advice and consent of the Senate. Treaties become the law of the land under the Supremacy Clause. From the beginning of the nation, Presidents have entered into a variety of different agreements and commitments, many of which have not been presented to Congress for review.

This program will look at the law and practice of international agreements and address their impact on the operation of our government.
