Sport and Culture in Ireland: The Atlas of Irish Sport
In 2027, the first of two volumes of the Atlas of Irish Sport will be published by University College Cork Press. This is the latest in the series of Atlases published by the press, with previous titles including the Atlas of the Irish Revolution and the Atlas of the Great Irish Famine. The Atlas of Irish Sport was edited by John Crowley, Mike Cronin, Cormack Moore, and Charlie Roche.
To celebrate this publication, BC Irish Studies is hosting a roundtable discussion that explores the themes in the Atlas, examines how such a project came to life, and delves into why sport is so important in Irish history and remains a powerful cultural force for the state and its diaspora. Participating in the roundtable will be Mike Cronin (Boston College), Cormac Moore (History Link), Cathal Conlon (Vice-President at New England Revolution), and Síofra Clérigh Büttner (Irish Olympian 2020).
