Making “Nguni”

Join James Green, the Frances and Benjamin Benenson Foundation Associate Curator of African Art and organizer of Nguni: Migrant Nations of Southeast Africa, for an engaging discussion about the ideas, collaborations, and curatorial vision behind the exhibition. Green explores how migration and political change shaped Nguni communities across southeastern Africa in the 19th century. He also shares how the project developed through partnerships across the region as well as with contemporary Nguni artists and makers, who bring new life to historic objects. Gallery Talks is a weekly series led by Gallery staff and guest speakers on Wednesdays at midday. Each session focuses on one to three works from the collection, inviting participants to look closely, share observations, and engage in conversation in the galleries.
