Flare or Fulminans? Navigating Acne Worsening on Isotretinoin

Learning objectives:

Recognize isotretinoin-induced acne flares and distinguish severe inflammatory flares from acne fulminans.Explain proposed mechanisms and clinical risk factors for isotretinoin-associated acne worsening and select appropriate prevention and treatment strategies.Individualize acne therapy in adolescent girls by identifying clinical scenarios in which hormonal therapies, including combined oral contraceptives and spironolactone, may be preferable to isotretinoin.
