This talk will introduce Ziad Jamaleddine’s recent book, At the Edge of Where God Built, co-authored with Makram el Kadi, which critically examines contemporary Islamic architecture through five Arabic spatial concepts: tawaf (circumambulation), jami (mosque), riwaq (colonnade), dar (domestic space), and khirba (ruin). Drawing on the architectural practice, research, and pedagogy of L.E.FT Architects, the book explores how historical and linguistic traditions can inform contemporary architectural thought and practice, challenging conventional understandings of Islamic architecture across the Middle East and beyond.
