Join us for an interdisciplinary discussion about the end of the Cold War, part of an international conference co-organized by Fairfield, Yale University, and the University of North Florida about the end of the Cold War in Latin America. Too often, this “end” is framed by global events such as the fall of the Berlin Wall or the collapse of the Soviet Union—or, in Latin America, limited transitions to democracy brokered by national elites. Instead of a single rupture marking the triumph of U.S.-led liberal democracy, No End in Sight explores how the Cold War’s conclusion was neither top-down nor uniform, and certainly not complete.

The conference will take place at Fairfield on Friday, October 16 and will conclude with a panel discussion moderated by Jennifer Adair featuring four leading historians: Mary Nolan (New York University), Barbara Weinstein (New York University), Priya Lal (Boston College), and Steve Hahn (New York University) who will discuss Cold War legacies in Latin America, Europe, Africa, and the United States.

Refreshments will be served!
