What role does academic freedom play in university life, and what are its limits? Can the humanities give us some answers as to what is allowed and what is not allowed to be discussed and taught and why? Please join NC State and Duke universities for a conversation with Jed Atkins, dean of the School of Civic Life and Leadership at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Joseph Blocher, the Lanty Smith Professor of Law at Duke.
This event is part of Sharing Ground, a joint NC State–Duke seminar exploring how the humanities can deepen our understanding of academic freedom and the university’s role in sustaining democratic life. Bringing together scholars, students and academic leaders, the seminar asks how humanistic inquiry can foster principled disagreement and a more vibrant culture of free inquiry on campus.
Registration is not required, but we would appreciate it if you'd register to let us know you're coming.
