Join Cuban filmmaker and scholar Lázaro J. González for a screening and discussion of Parole (2024), his award-winning short documentary exploring migration, exile, family separation, and the uncertain promise of reunification between Cuba and the United States. Drawing on González’s own experience in exile and his relationship with his mother in Cuba, the film offers an intimate perspective on the emotional realities behind immigration policy. For URI faculty and students, the event creates a timely space to consider migration not simply as a political issue, but as a lived human experience shaped by borders, displacement, memory, family, and belonging.
