This two-day public-facing event will explore the environmental history and conservation legacy that helped shape Idaho.
Nov. 6: Day One features authors contributing to a forthcoming project on Idaho’s environmental story and the leaders, communities, and decisions that helped define it. Listen to presentations by these authors and get a sneak peek at some of the chapters.Nov 7: Day Two invites the public to participate in a History Harvest by sharing photographs, documents, memorabilia, oral histories, and personal stories connected to Idaho’s landscapes and communities. Storytelling is one of humans’ strongest impulses to relay history.
Do you, or someone you know, have memories of Idaho in a different era? Idaho’s only four-term governor, Cecil D. Andrus, earned a national reputation for his stewardship of Idaho’s natural landscapes. A lifelong hunter and fisherman but a logger by trade, he understood the importance of making a living and safeguarding open spaces. He led and championed efforts to protect places like the White Clouds, Sawtooth Mountains, and Hells Canyon. His service as U.S. Secretary of the Interior further cemented his conservation legacy, culminating in the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act—one of the most significant land-protection achievements in American history.
