Please join us for the exhibition opening on Sunday, May 3rd, from 2:00 pm -4:00 pm in the Human Ecology Building. There will be commentary from the museum curator Dr. Michael Mamp, as well as refreshments!
Regular museum hours will resume on Monday May 4th, 2026 and run through January 15th, 2027.
Stitches in Time: Quilts & Fashion explores the enduring dialogue between quilt making and dress. Nineteenth and twentieth-century quilts are juxtaposed with quilted fashions to highlight connections in technique, color, and historical moment. At the heart of the exhibition is a remarkable recent gift from Sylvia R. Karasu, MD, Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medicine, a collection of garments by legendary American designer and Louisianian, Geoffrey Beene. These pieces represent Beene's enduring attention to craftsmanship, fabrication, and quilting as a means of elevating design and detail in high-end fashion.
