What happens when we slow down and spend a little more time with a single work of art? What can we learn from closely examining a mineral specimen?
A Closer Look: Collections in Focus is a new series inviting students, faculty, staff and community members to look closely, ask questions and share ideas about objects from the University of Delaware Museums’ collections.
For each 30-minute conversation, an undergraduate gallery attendant will guide an informal discussion centered on a single artwork or mineral specimen currently on view. No prior knowledge is needed—just curiosity and a willingness to look a little closer.
For the inaugural program, Laurel Huntley, a junior art history major, will lead a conversation about Daybreak in Alabama by Phoebe Beasley, a work of art on view in the Old College West Gallery exhibition The People Could Fly: Black Religion, Spirituality and Liberation.
Come take a closer look. You may be surprised by what you notice.
Registration is encouraged but not required.
