DANCE NATION is a jubilant and original play that is simultaneously funny, fierce, and unsettling. It delves into the terror and joy of growing up and the concept of ‘female perfectionism’ through the lens of competitive dance. The play follows a group of wild and curious middle-schooler dancers who fiercely navigate the boundaries of adulthood, the world, and their own identities as they strive to win the Boogie Down Grand Prix in Tampa Bay.

Finalist! 2019 Pulitzer Prize for Drama

“A refreshingly unorthodox play that conveys the joy and abandon of dancing, while addressing the changes to body and mind of its preteen characters as they peer over the precipice toward adulthood.”
