CLA Presents: Pulitzer Prize Winning Graphic Novelist Tessa Hulls

The Center for Literary Arts is proud to present Tessa Hulls, acclaimed author, artist, and speaker, for a special talk on their Pulitzer Prize winning graphic novel, FEEDING GHOSTS. This event takes place on Thursday, September 24, 2026 at the Hammer Theatre at 7 PM. Hulls is best known for her groundbreaking graphic memoir Feeding Ghosts, which received the 2025 Pulitzer Prize for Memoir and Autobiography. Blending visual art and narrative, Hulls’ work explores intergenerational trauma, resilience, and the intersections of identity, history, and mental health. The event will include a Q&A session & book signing following the talk. “Tessa Hulls is a storyteller of rare depth and honesty,” said J. Michael Martinez, CLA Director. “Her work bridges art, history, and lived experience in ways that resonate deeply with audiences; CLA is proud to be able to share her work with our SJSU students and surrounding community.” In addition to winning the 2025 Pulitzer Prize for Memoir and Autobiography, Feeding Ghosts won the Anisfield-Wolf Award, the Washington State Book Award, the National Book Critics Circle John Leonard Prize for First Book, the Eisner Award, and the Libby Award.
