When young English aristocrats embarked on the Grand Tour in the eighteenth century, their journey took them from comfort to terror, from terror to pleasure, from civilization to ruins—ultimately bringing a small but influential contingent home transformed in gloriously unexpected ways. Inspired by a forgotten moment in genderqueer history—when the so-called "Macaroni Men" fascinated 1770s London—this experimental performance constructs bodies of ornament and excess, publicly assembled and dissected, playfully exposing the authentic self as just another costume. Developed in collaboration with 2026 Christian A. Johnson Artist-in-Residence Adam Samuel Goldman and Assistant Professor Hank Bamberger, Department of Theater and Dance.
