CRC Fall Lab Talks: Child Safety Feature Audit
Downloads an .ics file · Times are in America/New_York · Google Calendar
Instagram, TikTok,Snapchat, and YouTube advertise childsafety features heavily: of 2,574 press releases collected since 2019, roughly one in eight describes one. A new audit from the Cybersafety Research Center asked whether those features do what the companies say. Of 86 advertised features tested between December 2025 and June 2026, 51 failed — they were broken (didn't work as claimed), buried (worked but unreachable for a teen), or missing (couldn't be triggered at all). Join us for a moderated discussion with lead author Lexie Matsumoto and Design It For Us co-founder Zamaan Qureshi on the findings, what they mean for the public, and where this line of research goes next.
