Painting a self-portrait that looks like you is a skill. Painting one that also feels like you is where your personal style comes in.

In this 2-day course, artist Izzi Lee will guide you through painting a self-portrait that captures both your likeness and your own way of seeing. You'll learn how to simplify and interpret what you see, put your visual instincts into words, and turn them into deliberate choices on the canvas.

Day 1: Explore (3 hours)We start with a short talk from Izzi on abstraction and verbalizing visual elements: how to understand what you're drawn to and why. Then you'll put it into practice with two painting exercises. First, you'll paint from a polaroid photo of yourself. Then, you'll create quick thumbnail sketches to experiment and find your direction for day two.

Day 2: Create (3 hours)With your ideas and experiments from day one, you'll paint your final acrylic self-portrait on a 30×40 cm canvas. Izzi will be there every step of the way to provide guidance and tips.

Who is this for?Artists with basic drawing skills who want to take the next step and develop a painting style that's truly their own.

About IzziIZZI LEE is a painter and cartoonist from Korea, based in Amsterdam. Story is at the center of her process across all mediums, observing the pleasures and oddities of being alive.
