The United States controls roughly 75% of the world's AI compute and leads in terms of frontier model power. At the same time, China is focused on releasing cost-optimised, open-weight models and wide economic diffusion. As AI progressively becomes a core part of economic and geopolitical power, the countries leading frontier AI development are likely to shape the terms on which others can participate. Where does this leave countries such as the UK? Join us for a stimulating discussion, hosted in collaboration with the Oxford United Nations Association and the Oxford Student Liberal Association, on how middle powers can build international consensus around AI governance, promote responsible development, and ensure AI systems remain under human control.
