Design your own scarf accessory—perfect for styling on your handbag, wrist, or hair!

A hands-on workshop exploring the creative foundations of fashion through textile color composition and logo design.

Join us at the Yusuf Islahi Center in collaboration with MATERIA PUERA and ICNA Sisters for a unique, hands-on workshop where we explore how color, pattern, and visual identity contribute to fashion product development.

Participants will:

Create a wearable textile accessory: Experiment with fabric paints and color composition on a miniature, twilly-inspired cotton accessory featuring a surprise pattern to help guide their color composition within this level one-time constraint.

Explore creative logo design: Learn about visual identity through a guided and truly unique design activity on paper.

Your Creation Is Yours to Keep! You’ll be guided and all materials are included!

Each participant will create a medium-sized wearable cotton accessory that can be styled as a handbag ribbon, wrist accessory, or hair accessory. Sized at 8x36 inches.

While a hairdryer/fan will be provided to accelerate drying time, there is no guarantee that each product will be 100% dry for same-day transport, but controlled amounts of paint will help the hairdryer do less work and each piece is expected to be dry enough to carry by workshop’s end.

Please note that the cotton accessories are creative textile studies with pre-cut decorative edges rather than professionally hemmed, full-sized hijabs given the cost and other constraints.

About the Workshop

This creative learning experience is presented in collaboration with MATERIA PUERA and ICNA Sisters. This workshop is presented with promotional support from the newly formed Muslim Artists’ Collaborative (MAC).

Selected MATERIA PUERA scarves will decorate the venue as temporary artworks. This is a temporary promotional display for the award-winning artist’s brand. Full-sized MATERIA PUERA scarves are not included in the workshop registration.
