The architecture, engineering, and construction industries are responsible for shaping the world around us. But when it comes to adopting new technology and changing how things get done? Let's just say there's plenty of room for innovation.
And where there's a problem, there's a potential startup opportunity.
But building a startup in construction and design isn't quite like building your typical tech company. You're dealing with complex workflows, long sales cycles, multiple decision-makers, and an industry where "we've always done it this way" can be a pretty tough objection to overcome.
So, how do you actually turn an industry problem into a business?
As part of Startup Boston's Cross-University Student Innovators Mixer series, we're bringing together students from colleges and universities across the region alongside founders and industry leaders to explore what it takes to launch a startup in architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC).
We'll dig into:
Spotting startup opportunities: Where are the biggest gaps in construction, architecture, and engineering that the next generation of entrepreneurs could solve?
Turning classroom knowledge into startup ideas: How can students use what they're learning in school to identify real-world problems worth solving?
Validating your idea: How do you figure out whether you've found a problem that customers will actually pay to solve?
Breaking into the industry: How do you land your first customers, build relationships, and introduce new solutions in an industry built on trust?
Building something that scales: What should aspiring founders know about technology, fundraising, partnerships, and growing a startup in AEC?
Whether you're studying architecture, engineering, construction management, design, computer science, business, or you're simply curious about entrepreneurship, this event is for you.
And because this is a Cross-University Student Innovators Mixer, the conversation doesn't end when the panel wraps up! You'll also have the chance to meet students from other universities, connect with founders and industry professionals, and maybe even find someone to build your next big idea with.
Come curious and leave with new connections, fresh ideas, and a better understanding of how you could turn an industry problem into your own startup.
This event is an official part of Boston Built Week. A huge thank you to Suffolk Technologies for partnering with us on this!
