During the 50s and 60s our parents and grandparents landed on British soil and were faced with hostile environments.

They were locked out of bars, pubs and music venues because they weren't seen to be 'British'.

This widespread exclusion meant that Black British people who had made the trip from places like Jamaica, Barbados and St. Lucia couldn't celebrate and honour their cultures as they would back home.

And that's why the sound systems culture in Britain was born. During a time of hardship, sound systems acted as a beacon of light, bringing people together from far and wide.

That's why on the 7th of November, in collaboration with Derek A Bardowell, we're bringing you Fire Inna Dancehall.

The event itself is an intimate book launch along with a conversation hosted by Montel Gordon.

At the heart of the day, we'll explore how dancehall and sound systems have helped to:

Hold communities together

Act as a form of resistance

Honour black lineages

The 7th of November is set to be a day that honours what came before us. But also sets the pace for what's to come.
