Element is a new annual photographic journal about South Africa’s wild places and the people drawn to them. After a year in the making, Issue 01, The Water Issue, is here, and aēsplore studio is the first place in the world to hold it, before it reaches any shop.

Made by a small independent team and around 30 photographers, writers and illustrators, the issue travels from shark waters and the sardine run to the harbour at Kalk Bay and the far Southern Ocean. It runs to 184 pages of slow, considered storytelling, made in South Africa and built to keep.

Gunnar, founder of Element, and his team will introduce the journal and share how the project became a real magazine. The photographs and stories from the issue hang in the studio as an exhibition, so you can see the work as it was meant to be seen. Then we celebrate with wine and finger food.

The first run is limited to 3,000 copies.

A reason to put the phone down. Come and hold Element for the first time.

Can’t make Wednesday? The exhibition stays up for First Thursday on 5 November.
