Girl Dinner presents: Playdate 1

We’re inviting you to a Playdate: a whimsical wander through the Northern Quarter, and a chance to see a walk you might do every week in a slightly different way.

Most of us spend Monday to Friday just trying to get from point A to point B as quickly as possible. We rarely take the time to stop, look up, look down and notice the art that’s all around us.

But a walkway is more than a functional thing. Even the path from A to B is more than a direct route. It’s a playground to be explored. Like when you were a kid, a big cement block can be a ship, or a surfboard you’re flying on. The ground is your playboard, ready for a chalk hopscotch. The walls are there for you to express yourself, and to see how others have expressed themselves. We get to take something we’re told is functional and put our own stamp on it.

That’s what Playdates is about: a chance for each of us to explore a bit of the silliness we all have inside us. We’ll take a journey that might take you 5 to 10 minutes on a weekday and have fun with it. It stops being a place you move through and becomes a place to explore and be part of.

And there’s nowhere better for it than the Northern Quarter, where everything has its own personality. The same goes for all of us. We each bring our own unique stamp to the world, so let’s let ourselves go a little.

The plan ()~ Meet us at Just Between Friends at 10am for a coffee~ We’ll set off at 10:30 and wander around the Northern Quarter for about an hour~ Wear comfy shoes and dress warm~ You don’t need to bring anything, we’ve got you covered~ Come with an open mind, and come ready to play
