This is the first Steel City AI Robotics Lab: a longer, hands-on Saturday session for people who want to build intelligent machines together.

Bring a robot, kit, unfinished project, or collection of parts if you have one. If you do not own any hardware, come anyway. Bring an idea, join somebody else's build, or help us shape a shared project for future Labs.

We will start by seeing what is already in the room: robots, sensors, skills, half-finished projects, ambitious ideas, and problems worth solving. Then we will form small groups and start building.

The challenge

By 2pm, get one small part of a robot working or leave with a clear project, team, and next step for the following Lab.

That could mean making something sense its surroundings, respond to an instruction, plan a simple action, move reliably, or connecting an AI model to hardware for the first time.

Start here: join a project and help get one sensor, model, motor, or behaviour working.

Stretch: connect sensing, understanding, and movement into one complete loop that you can demonstrate.

How the session runs

11:00am: Welcome, introductions, and robot show-and-tell

11:30am: Share ideas, choose projects

2:00pm: Structured session ends; stay afterwards if you want to keep building

Bring

Yourself, your ideas, and your enthusiasm

A robot, kit, unfinished project, sensors, or parts if you have them

Any batteries, chargers, controllers, and unusual cables your hardware needs

A laptop and charger if your project uses one

No robot and no robotics experience are required. If you plan to bring anything particularly large, heavy, or high-powered, message us in Discord first.

Steel City AI Robotics Lab is a hands-on meetup for people exploring embodied AI: machines that can sense, understand, and act in the physical world. No pitches. No long talks. Just shared builds, experiments, and progress.

Learn by doing. Connect locally. Build something that moves.
