When Murder Mystery plans fall on Halloween, we have to add a little twist.
Instead of giving you a character to play, we’re asking you to come dressed as your favourite book character and commit to the bit.
We’ll play a couple rounds of an “Traitor-style” murder mystery. You could end up dead (omg!), be the detective trying to solve the case, the accomplice helping cover it up, or the medic trying to keep people innocent.
Let me set the stage:
“ Katniss Everdeen survived two Hunger Games and an entire war, only to be murdered here tonight. Aelin Ashryver Galathynius, Queen of Terrasen, and Clytemnestra, a fellow queen, have been brought in to investigate, and both know a thing or two about killing.
Our medic, Olive Smith, is here to help keep them on track.
But watch out, Jessamyn St. Germain and Julie Chan are acting suspicious...”
What to wear?
Your costume can be as high or as low effort as you want.
Want to be Olive from The Love Hypothesis? Throw on a lab coat.
Want to be Manon from Throne of Glass? Grab a cloak, white wig and some long nails.
Or think outside the box and come as an object, prop or animal that is important to a book. (e.g. dressing up as the mouse from Julie Chan Is Dead)
What to expect?
You’ll be in character for most of the night, so we recommend picking someone who is fairly easy to recognize or guess. That said, not everyone will know every character, so be ready to give people a quick pitch on who you are, what book you’re from, and why they should care about you.
There will also be some “trial” components throughout the game, where you may need to defend yourself, accuse someone else, explain your alibi, or convince the group you’re innocent. Think light public speaking, but very unserious and very much part of the game.
You do not need to be an amazing actor or stay perfectly in character all night. Just come ready to participate, be a little dramatic, and commit to the bit.
Drinks:We’ll be serving both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. There will not be a full meal (we want everyone to mingle!), so please eat before you arrive!
Please be on time:The game starts at 6:45 PM sharp. The beginning sets up the entire mystery, so if you miss it, the rest of the game will be very difficult to follow. Please plan to arrive with enough time to grab a drink and get settled before we start.
Tickets are non-refundable.
