Her acclaimed debut novel, Beast of the sea, Elolliset, has captured international attention and has been sold in 22 languages. Iida Turpeinen, born in 1987, is fascinated by the literary possibilities of scientific research, as well as by the curious and surprising details to be found in the history of science. She lives in Helsinki and is currently working on a doctoral dissertation exploring the relationship between science and literature. Turpeinen’s early short stories about the relationship between humans and animals received literary awards. Beast of the Sea is her first novel and is currently being translated into more than 20 languages. It has already become the most successful Finnish debut novel of all time.
