Language in Flux — Opening Night

Saturday 21 November, 4–8pmSIGNAL, Northbank, Flinders Walk, Melbourne VIC 3000Free entry · RSVP recommended

Platform and SIGNAL invite you to the opening night of Language in Flux, a two-week exhibition bringing together 24 artists across SIGNAL’s gallery, walls, screens and speakers.

Language in Flux explores language not as a fixed set of rules, but as something constantly shifting, breaking down and rebuilding itself as it moves through people, communities and time. From slang and dialect to the unspoken understanding between people who know each other well, the works look at how language connects us, draws lines between us and exists beyond words entirely: in image, sound, rhythm and the body.

Developed in partnership with SIGNAL’s Curators Collective, the exhibition spans four streams:

General art inside SIGNAL’s gallery: painting, sculpture, textile, ceramics, installation and more

Murals across seven outdoor walls

Screen-based works on SIGNAL’s four-screen outdoor display after dark

Sound works activating 27 speakers along SIGNAL’s Sound Walk

Join us for an evening of performances, DJs and interactive activities, alongside the full showcase of works. Light catering provided.

Featuring works byAnn Nguyễn, Ava Dinh-Vu, bigemptyroom, Blendsbya, Brigette, Cam Wu, Charlie Berry Foo, En Jie Xu, Esra Atilla, Hugo Gibson, Jess Lu, Juniper Care, Khashayar Salmanzadehg, Meredith Walker, Mia Herreen, Nat Poon, pendar [ clone ], QiQi Music, Sinéad Wheeler, Sophie Wei, Tartshi, TAXI!, Yan Lin and Zoe Bee
