Approach
From Tom’s Thumb trailhead we will hike approximately 1 mile with a steep section at the end to reach the base of Sven Tower 3. The hike takes about 30 minutes.

What to Bring
Bring plenty of water, snacks, and any other personal items you need for a day outdoors. Bring UV protection (sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, sun hoody etc). Check weather beforehand and layer accordingly. Wear shoes suitable for hiking and bring a pack large enough to accommodate your gear plus club gear and rope(s) to keep your hands free on the hike in/out.

Personal climbing gear: helmet, harness, personal anchor, belay/rappel device(s), 48” sewn runner or double-length sling, autoblock, prusik cords, at least 3 locking carabiners, climbing shoes.

Additional items recommended for this climb: a small pack to carry items with you on the climb (water/snacks, approach shoes, windbreaker). Water bottles and approach shoes can also be (securely) racked on your harness. We will rappelling off the backside of the formation and scrambling back to our packs, so you'll want your shoes with you.

Optional items: belay/rappel gloves, chalk, crack gloves or tape.
