Good people. Good nights. Let's actually meet each other.
Welcome to the first Auckland Select Singles night out.
Forget speed dating, forced rotations, awkward card games and being assigned somebody to talk to. The idea is much simpler:
Get a good crowd of single people together, make it easier to actually meet each other, then let the night develop naturally.
Guided enough that people actually meet. Free enough that chemistry can happen naturally.
🎉 FREE Launch Night - Just RSVP on Meetup!
FREE EVENT - quick step to join us!
✅ RSVP here on Meetup to join the community and stay connected.
Please only RSVP if you genuinely intend to attend. If your plans change, simply update your RSVP so we can plan around accurate numbers.
Good people. Good nights. No Scrubs.
What to expect:
✅ Some complimentary shared nibbles to help get the evening started.
✅ Guided introductions, a playful icebreaker and ongoing help keeping the group socially alive.
Drinks and additional food are available to purchase directly from the bar.
Please support the venue with any additional drinks or food you'd like during the evening. Non-alcoholic drinks are absolutely fine.
Let's make it a great night for the venue too, so they'll be happy to have us back! 😄
✅ RSVPs and attendance
We're aiming for a good mix of men and women, with enough people to make the evening fun for everyone.
Please RSVP here on Meetup if you're genuinely planning to come. If your plans change, simply update your RSVP so we can plan around accurate numbers.
✅ How the night works
6:30 PM - Arrive, find us and meet the others
We're planning to have a table near the front as our Auckland Select Singles home base. Come find us when you arrive and we'll introduce you to the others.
Come solo or bring a single friend.
If you don't know anybody, don't stress. Most people won't.
Around 7:00 PM - We break the ice properly
This is where we're doing things a little differently.
We'll kick things off with a quick, informal icebreaker, having some fun with the things that usually make singles events awkward:
the classic men-on-one-side, women-on-the-other-side huddles
closed-off body language
standing around waiting for somebody else to make the first move
boring job-interview conversations
how to actually walk over and say hello without making it weird
why making the first move works both ways
how to decline an interaction without being rude
why rejection really isn't the end of the world
the difference between genuinely meeting people and treating the room like a numbers game
Expect some self-deprecating humour, willing volunteers and probably me making an idiot of myself for educational purposes 😄
Nobody is going to be forced to perform, rotate partners or talk to somebody they don't want to talk to.
Then mingle naturally
Talk to whoever catches your interest.
Mingle. Flirt. Laugh. Dance. Introduce people. Exchange numbers. Stay in a conversation that's going well or politely move on from one that isn't.
Don't sit around hoping they'll magically make the first move. Interest works both ways. And if you need a nudge or an introduction, just grab one of us.
And we do NOT disappear after the opening icebreaker.
Throughout the night we'll keep an eye on the room and occasionally throw in a quick, playful reset if everybody starts retreating back into little huddles, getting stuck with the people they arrived with or forgetting that they came to a singles event to actually meet somebody.
No forced rotations.
No assigned conversations.
Just enough guidance to keep the room socially alive.
And yes, this is actually a night out
As the evening gets going, expect music, nightlife and clubbing rather than sitting around a table playing dating games.
The official event runs from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM, but nobody blows a whistle at 9:30 and sends everyone home.
From 10:00 PM, the venue switches into club mode and keeps going until 3:00 AM.
If you're having a great night, stay.
Keep talking. Keep dancing. See where the night goes.
It's Friday night.
✅ Flirting is welcome and encouraged
If somebody catches your eye, go say hello.
Meet someone. Flirt. Exchange numbers. Date. See where things go.
Interest is welcome. Pressure is not.
Nobody owes anybody attention, attraction or another conversation.
If you're not interested, a polite:
"Thanks, but I'm all good."
is enough.
If somebody isn't interested in you, smile, say:
"All good, have a great night."
and carry on enjoying yourself.
Chemistry is good. Consent is clear. People are not inventory.
❌ What we're NOT doing
❌ NOT Speed dating
❌ NOT Forced rotations
❌ NOT Board games pretending to create chemistry
❌ NOT Awkward networking
❌ NOT Assigned partners
❌ NOT Sitting around interviewing each other
❌ NOT Men spending the night staring from across the room
❌ NOT Women hiding in an impenetrable soccer huddle all night 😄
❌ Absolutely NO treating the room like a pickup circuit
❌ Absolutely NO Scrub behaviour
🚩 No Scrubs means something
We want everyone here to have a good night.
Harassment, aggression, unwanted physical contact, repeated boundary-pushing, obnoxious, disruptive or abusive behaviour, deliberate humiliation of other members, being visibly intoxicated, or refusing to take a clear no for an answer may result in you being asked to leave.
If you're removed from the event for misconduct, you'll also be excluded from future Auckland Select Singles events.
👗 Dress code
Friday night out / smart casual.
Make an effort, but don't overthink it. Dress like you're going to a good Auckland bar or club or on a date - clean, presentable and comfortable enough to stay out and have fun.
No suits required. No fashion competition. Just look like you meant to go out tonight.
👥 Launch numbers
We want enough people in the room for the format to work properly.
We need enough genuine RSVPs and a reasonably balanced mix of men and women to make the launch work properly.
If the numbers or gender balance aren't viable by the week of the event, we'll move the launch to the next suitable Friday rather than run a half-empty or badly unbalanced first night. If that happens, we'll update the Meetup event and notify everyone who RSVP'd.
📍 Venue
Long Room / Long Shot, Ponsonby
We're planning to have a table near the front as our Auckland Select Singles meeting point.
We're joining the venue's normal Friday night crowd rather than booking a private function area. Our table is simply the meeting point. From there, mingle, move around the venue and enjoy the night.
Come find us at the table when you arrive. We'll introduce you to the others, and from there the night is yours.
Exact table location will be confirmed before the event.
About the organiser
Auckland Select Singles is personally organised and hosted by Tikiri.
This event is about bringing singles together for a great night out, not promoting or selling business services.
One last thing
We're not trying to build another Meetup with thousands of names on a page and twenty people who actually show up.
We're trying to build a real crowd that comes out, gets to know each other and actually comes back.
So:
RSVP here on meetup - it's free!
Show up.
Talk to people.
Have a great night.
Good people. Good energy. No Scrubs.
