Let's meet and discuss Marjan Kamali's award winning novel The Stationery Shop.
Roya, a dreamy, idealistic teenager living amid the political upheaval of 1953 Tehran, finds a literary oasis in kindly Mr. Fakhri’s neighborhood stationery shop, stocked with books and pens and bottles of jewel-colored ink.
Searching for modern books that Jane Austen would have loved, we picked this one for the love story, the social commentary, and the literary oasis of the stationery shop itself. Let's discuss the book, and compare it to our favorite Austen classics!
Going forward, we will continue to alternate between an Austen novel and a modern novel we think Austen would have liked. Come to the meeting to vote on our next read!
