This is the debut appearance of Commandant Verhoeven—the detective later featured in ’Alex’—as he confronts a series of bizarre, gruesome murders that culminate in a shocking revelation. When the mutilated body of a young woman is discovered, Commandant Verhoeven of the Paris Police Prefecture is assigned to the case, working alongside his team—including the wealthy, fashion-obsessed Louis. The killer’s methods are exceptionally savage; at the crime scene, a message is left, scrawled in blood: "I’m back." It soon becomes clear that these killings are linked to an unsolved case from the past—different in their execution, yet equally brutal. This is the work of a serial killer. As Verhoeven and his team comb through old case files in search of clues, the Commandant remains unaware of a terrifying truth: the killer’s reach has extended to his own pregnant wife, Irène. The narrative unfolds as a high-stakes, suspenseful confrontation with a psychopathic murderer—but as the story enters its second part, it takes a dramatic turn, revealing an entirely different face to the reader!
