The Animal of Bad Faith: Speciesism as an Existential Project
Thursday, October 15
5:30–7PM
Denver Law, Room 165
Join the Animal Law Program for an evening talk with John Sanbonmatsu!
John, professor of philosophy at Worcester Polytechnic Institute and the author of The Omnivore’s Deception: What We Get Wrong about Meat, Animals, and Ourselves, will show how modern human identity is bound up with the negation of animality in ways that fundamentally implicate and compromise our freedom. Drawing on Jean-Paul Sartre’s phenomenology of antisemitism and on examples drawn from a variety of domains (from food “sustainability” discourse and wildlife management to media culture, moral philosophy, and artificial intelligence), John will reveal how speciesism is an inauthentic existential project that has now come to threaten all terrestrial life.
Food will be provided! Please register here.
