HIKE: If it rains, the hike is canceled, but the lunch is still on! Please be a few minutes early (by 8:45am) as we will begin hiking right at 9am. This is a little less than 5 mile total, out and back walk on the Shady Canyon Walking Trail in Irvine. There are a few steady hills on this walk. Hiking poles can be helpful on some of the uphill sections but not necessary. There are public restrooms at the halfway turn around point. We'll take a short rest there while people use the facilities. Hiking shoes are not needed on this trail, but good walking shoes that don't slip easily are recommended.
We'll meet at the Shady Canyon Trailhead sign beside the tennis courts (to your left by the parking circle as you enter the parking lot) at Turtle Rock Community Park in Irvine (1 Sunnyhill, Irvine).
There are restrooms available at the community center at the other end of the main parking lot. Please allow yourself an extra 10 minutes before the walk if you will need to use the restroom. Bring water, light jacket, and wear sunscreen as appropriate.
Please see the red map marker on this posting for the exact meeting spot. There is ADDITIONAL PARKING in a small lot on Turtle Rock Dr., and across Turtle Rock Dr. on the street on Southern Wood. Both are about a five minute walk to the meeting spot.
Big thanks to Candi Hubert, who will be hosting this event while Cindy Freeman is traveling in Europe with OCCAT members on back to back to back river cruises! Here is the link to all our upcoming events and trips for 2027-28!
We will meet afterwards for lunch at Mendocino Farms in Fashion Island. Park in the parking structure between Bloomingdales and Nordstrom.
For questions about the hike, contact our park ranger who is leading the hike, Candi Hubert ([email protected]). Remember to RSVP.
