Rancherias Loop: Big Bend Ranch State Park

Please do read the entire trip description before signing up. This is a 28 mile loop hike in the high desert of Big Bend Ranch State Park, the Rancherias Loop. This is a beautiful high desert hike with canyons, an old adobe ranch house and two springs for water (second spring not always reliable).
1. 4 December - travel to the park to secure permits. We will start hiking the first day and stay some place after the Drip Spring.
2. 5 December - relatively short hike to the adobe homestead with access to year-around water.
3. 6 December - our longest day carrying 5-6 liters from the ranch spring to a camp site with views of Guitarra Butte.
4. 7 December - hike out to our cars with a potential for a stop in Alpine for showers and lunch before heading home. Please bring a towel\, soap and a change of clothes.

Although we will have access to water please ensure you can carry at least 5 liters of water. I will stay in contact with the park to ensure that water will be available at the second spring. If there is no water then we will have to carry 5 liters of water from the ranch house.

HEB no longer allows us to leave cars overnight. You will have to figure out carpooling on your own. Everyone will be required to sign a liability waiver before the trip.
