Welcome to the very first cross-bay journey of You Belong Here | Tampa Bay Sanctuary: Mindful Socials.
This Saturday, we are expanding our geography and crossing the bridge for our very first Horizon Excursion—meaning an extended, slow-paced weekend regional trip to the coast designed to build deep roots under the sun. We are anchoring our group right in the heart of downtown St. Petersburg during the final weekend of the world-class SHINE Mural Festival.
As a close-knit, intimate social group, we are stepping entirely away from our phone screens. We are turning this open-air street gallery into a mindful, unhurried scavenger hunt for the senses. The neighborhood will be alive as international and local artists put the finishing touches on massive building-scale walls. We are gathering to slow down, look up, take in incredible visual art, and connect simply as down-to-earth neighbors without the noise of the daily grind.
🌆 The Atmosphere of the Space
Navigating a public arts festival can easily feel overwhelming if you do it solo. We bring our own quiet center of gravity:
An Intimate, Intentional Circle: We intentionally protect a small, close-knit space. This isn't a massive, loud crowd—it is an intimate walk designed for authentic, comfortable presence where nobody gets lost in the background.
The Art as an Armor Shield: Because the stunning visual storytelling is provided entirely by world-class muralists, there is zero pressure on our members to perform or carry the social energy of the afternoon. The walls provide a natural conversation starter, completely eliminating forced small talk or transactional elevator pitches.
⏱️ Strict Staging Window: We spend exactly 45 minutes grounding our circle at our starting point. At 3:45 PM sharp, we walk off the plaza as a unified block. Because we will be drifting organically down Central Avenue's winding sidewalk trails to spot the new murals, the group will not be able to track down late arrivals once we are on the move. Arriving right at 3:00 PM is the best way to comfortably join the crew!
🧩 How Our Mindful Hunt Works
No Apps or Checklists: This is an unhurried, screen-free scavenger hunt for the senses. We aren't racing against a countdown timer or hunting down hidden geocaches.
Visual Cues: Instead of a rigid app grid, we will share 3 quiet visual invitations during our welcome circle to hold in your awareness as we wander, helping us slow down and observe the neighborhood's subtle artistic details together.
🌅 The Hunt Timeline
3:00 PM – 3:45 PM | The Core Pre-Meet & Welcome Circle: We meet on the brick paths of Pioneer Park (located right at Central Ave & Bayshore Dr SE, overlooking the open water and yacht basins) to drop the week's noise, connect as a local neighborhood group, and put on our visual tokens.
3:45 PM – 5:30 PM | The Open-Air Canvas Stroll: We move off the plaza as a unified block, cutting straight down Central Avenue. We'll move at an unhurried, breathing pace to find hidden alleyway masterpieces, watch live painting, and share what we observe.
5:30 PM – 6:00 PM | Coastal Reflections & The Runway: Our walking loop wraps up at an open-air local patio along the mural route for refreshments. The official circle wraps cleanly at 6:00 PM, leaving the late-evening runway wide open.
🌬️ The Cool Down (Optional Evening Runway)
Once our official circle closes, the evening is yours to soak in the coastal air. St. Pete has a beautiful, vibrant energy as night falls, and you are welcome to continue exploring the waterfront with new friends:
The St. Pete Pier Stroll: A short walk down the water brings you to the St. Pete Pier, which features beautiful twilight views over the bay, hidden design groves, and peaceful walking pathways.
Spa Beach & Florida Fin Fest: If you walk toward Spa Beach, you will hear live music drifting across the water. Spa Beach Park is hosting Florida Fin Fest this weekend. While the main concert area requires a paid ticket, you can freely walk the surrounding public boardwalks, explore the festival's free ocean conservation Education Village, or simply sit on the public grass nearby to enjoy the festival ambiance and waterfront twilight entirely for free.
🪷 What to Expect & Wear
The Setting: We utilize public pedestrian corridors and open sidewalk paths. The total walking distance will be a casual, flat 1.2 miles with frequent stops to admire the art.
The Focus: Leave the professional armor, business cards, and networking scripts at home. This is a platonic sanctuary to just enjoy local presence.
What to Wear: Completely casual, comfortable footwear built for walking, and light layers suited for a cooling coastal evening. Bring sunglasses and a water bottle.
Cost & Non-Commercial Policy: Completely free to attend. The outdoor street gallery is public. This is a strictly non-commercial, purely social gathering of neighbors. There are zero fees, zero products for sale, and no solicitations of any kind. Any coffee, snacks, or drinks at our final patio stop are completely optional and at your own individual expense.
🚗 PARKING RECOMMENDATIONS
SOUTH CORE GARAGE (101 1st Ave S): This is the most reliable, centralized, and affordable covered parking deck downtown, located just a 2-minute walk from our Pioneer Park meeting point.
STREET PARKING: Available along Beach Drive and 1st Ave S. Please download the ParkMobile app ahead of time for seamless street parking.
